For your consideration, an exquisite, rare, Victorian Sterling Silver Chatelaine, fully hallmarked with floral and foliate decoration. It's very unusual to find a chatelaine as beautiful as this, with its original matching tools!
It's comprised of five silver chains interspersed with leaf decorations also in silver. Attached, left to right, -are a whistle, circular pin cushion, scissors guard/holder with additional chain to secure the scissors, aide memoire with three writing leaves, and combined penknife and glove button hook. This gorgeous piece was handcrafted by Charles Mappin, London 1890/91. The pincushion, scissors and holder, aide memoire are all clearly marked with 'CM', standard silver mark and date letter. The two part cast silver body of the chatelaine is marked for 1890/91 with town for Birmingham, made in Birmingham for Mappin Bros..
The two other items were probably replaced by the owner as a matter of choice, are made later, by specialists. They are a whistle by H.W.Asford 1900/1 and penknife/button hook by William Vale and Sons in the same year.
Condition: All excellent - no wear or damage except the steel blades of the scissors are slightly corroded and slightly loose, and the pen knife bears partly removed initials.
